The baseline is rough. Storeya puts the outdoor gear average at 1.96 percent, with REI.com at 2.5 to 3.0 percent and Backcountry.com at 2.0 to 2.5 percent. Price isn't the blocker. The way the buyer shops is.

A buyer at $400 for a backpacking tent reads for hours. They want four things. How heavy in the pack. How big when pitched. How tall on the inside. How well it sheds rain in real wind. A flat photo on a white background answers none of them.

The market is huge and the page is the bottleneck. Outdoor Industry Association reports the outdoor market reached $28 billion in 2024, up 1 percent, and OIA's 2025 Participation Trends Report counts 181.1 million participants, with hiking, camping, and fishing each gaining over two million new people. The traffic is there. So is the doubt.
